Create a Balanced Smoothie in 4 Easy Steps

You don’t always have time to cook a gourmet breakfast before heading out to work. You know starting the day with a good breakfast is important, but what can you do if you only have a few minutes to prep something?

Smoothies have been my on-the-go breakfast for years now. The problem with buying one from a deli or coffee shop is that they’re loaded with added sugars and aren’t a great source of protein. I rather make my own at home and that way I know it’s a balanced meal.

Creating balanced smoothies doesn’t have to be overcomplicated though. Here’s all you need:

  1. Pick in your protein — this might be greek yogurt or whey protein powder
  2. Add your fruit and veggies — try only using one serving of fruit like berries or peaches
  3. Add in your healthy fat — nut butter or avocado
  4. Add in your liquid of choice — I recommend water or almond milk

My personal favorite is below that my oldest sister taught me ten years ago now. Still delicious and hits the spot every time.

1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder
1 banana
1 tablespoon peanut butter
1 cup almond milk
1 cup ice

Throw it all in the blender and be prepared for a delicious chocolate-peanut butter treat to kickstart your morning.
